🍴 FORK IN THE ROAD

Two Scottsdale Seafood Powerhouses. One Very Expensive Fork.

If there are two restaurants that can turn dinner into an event, it’s these two.

Both are part of the same restaurant family. Both serve serious seafood, USDA Prime steaks, premium wines, and cocktails. Both are designed for celebrations, business dinners, date nights, and those occasions when you’re perfectly comfortable saying, “Let's just go for it.”

But they don't feel exactly the same.

Mastro's Ocean Club sits at Kierland Commons and brings the classic Mastro's energy—live music, a lively lounge, polished service, and a menu that gives equal attention to steak, seafood, and sushi. Its current menu includes everything from Japanese A5 Wagyu and dry-aged steaks to Chilean sea bass, king crab, lobster, and sashimi.

Ocean 44, near Scottsdale Fashion Square, is a bit more seafood-forward, with a massive raw bar, an exhibition kitchen, an extensive seafood menu, and a prime steak program. The restaurant describes itself as a fine-dining seafood restaurant and steakhouse, with an airy coastal-inspired design.

So the question isn't really which one is better.

It's:

What kind of night are you looking for?

Landrys Mastro’s Ocean Club Inside

🦞 Mastro’s Ocean Club

The classic Scottsdale big night out.

Mastro's Ocean Club has something Ocean 44 doesn't quite replicate: the Mastro's experience.

Live entertainment plays every night, a bustling lounge, and a dining room that feels like Scottsdale has dressed up for the evening. The lounge opens at 4:30 p.m., with live entertainment running into the evening. (Mastro's Ocean Club)

And then there's the menu.

This is not a seafood restaurant that happens to have steak.

You can go deep into seafood with Chilean sea bass, branzino, Alaskan halibut, king crab, lobster tail, and jumbo prawns, or go in the other direction with a 22-ounce bone-in ribeye, 24-ounce porterhouse, dry-aged ribeye, or Japanese A5 Wagyu.

And Mastro's also has a sushi program, giving you another lane entirely.

🍸 The atmosphere

This is where Mastro's really makes its case.

It's lively, polished and energetic.

You can have a serious dinner, but there's always something happening around you. The music, the bar and the crowd make it feel less like you're simply going out to eat and more like you're going out for the evening.

That distinction matters.

Ocean 44 Inside

🦀 Ocean 44

Where seafood takes center stage.

Ocean 44 has a slightly different personality.

The restaurant was designed around seafood and steak, with an enormous selection of fresh seafood, a raw bar and an exhibition kitchen where diners can watch the culinary team at work. The restaurant's current menu emphasizes globally sourced seafood, USDA Prime steaks and Australian Wagyu. (Ocean 44)

And if you're the person at the table who says:

“I want seafood.”

Ocean 44 might be the easier decision.

Oysters, lobster, crab, sashimi, fish, and seafood towers all have a prominent place on the menu.

But don't mistake seafood-forward for steak-light.

Ocean 44 still brings serious beef to the table, making it a legitimate surf-and-turf destination. (Ocean 44)

🍷 The atmosphere

Ocean 44 is sophisticated, dramatic and contemporary, but it can feel a little more focused on the dining experience itself.

There's still plenty of energy, but the room has different spaces and a slightly more intimate feel in places.

It's the kind of restaurant where you can settle in, order a bottle of wine, and really make an evening out of dinner.

Mastro’s Ocean Club

🥩 LET'S TALK STEAK

This is a tough category because both restaurants take beef seriously.

At Mastro's Ocean Club, the current menu includes USDA Prime cuts, dry-aged beef, American Wagyu, Australian Wagyu, and Japanese A5. The steaks range from a 6-ounce petite filet to a 24-ounce porterhouse, with Japanese A5 New York cuts reaching $200. (Mastro's Ocean Club)

Ocean 44 similarly offers USDA Prime and Australian Wagyu alongside its seafood program. (Ocean 44)

Our take:

Mastro's Ocean Club gets the slight edge if steak is your priority.

There's simply a little more of that classic steakhouse DNA running through the experience.

But if you're sitting at a table where one person wants a great steak and another wants a serious seafood dinner?

Ocean 44 becomes very difficult to beat.

Ocean 44

🦞 SEAFOOD SHOWDOWN

Here's where Ocean 44 starts flexing.

Its entire identity was built around bringing the Mastro family's steakhouse-level hospitality and execution to a seafood-driven restaurant. The current menu includes oysters, lobster, crab, raw-bar selections, seafood entrées and premium fish. (Ocean 44)

Mastro's Ocean Club has an impressive seafood selection as well, but it also has steaks, sushi and other distractions competing for your attention.

Winner: Ocean 44

If seafood is the reason you're making the reservation, we'd point you toward Ocean 44.

🎶 THE NIGHT-OUT FACTOR

This one goes to Mastro's Ocean Club.

Mastro's currently features nightly live entertainment, with performances every evening. (Mastro's Ocean Club)

That gives the restaurant a very recognizable personality.

You can start with cocktails, move into dinner and let the evening continue without feeling like you need to hurry out.

Ocean 44 is certainly upscale and energetic, but if you want dinner + entertainment + Scottsdale nightlife energy, Mastro's has the advantage.

💰 WHAT ABOUT THE PRICE?

Let's be honest.

Neither restaurant is inexpensive.

These are celebration restaurants.

And once you start adding premium steaks, seafood, wine, cocktails, and those famous sides, the check can climb quickly.

Mastro's current menu has steaks ranging from $61 for the petite filet to $110 for the porterhouse, with premium Wagyu selections going considerably higher. (Mastro's Ocean Club)

Ocean 44 operates in the same luxury-dining category.

This isn't where you're looking for the cheapest dinner in Scottsdale.

It's where you're deciding whether the experience is worth the splurge.

🏆 SO... WHICH ONE GETS THE FORK?

This is one of those Fork in the Road battles where we're not going to pretend there is one universal winner.

They're different enough that your choice really depends on what you're after.
